About the job

This position is a hybrid role, meaning that the right candidate will work mostly remotely but will be expected to attend firm events, as well as travel to our client offices throughout the greater SF Bay Area when needed.

The Human Resource Manager will manage the routine functions of the Human Resources (HR) department, under the direction of the Human Resources Director; administering compensation, benefits, leaves, engagement, performance management, and immigration while also implementing company policies and practices.

In this critical role, you’ll wear many hats and have the opportunity to make a positive impact! This position is hands-on, requiring a high level of prioritization and organizational skills, as well as technical proficiency. This role, which reports directly to the Director of Human Resources, manages HR functions, including benefits administration, leaves of absence, enforcement of policies and procedures, and compliance matters.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Interview, hire and supervise less experienced HR staff
  • Provide constructive and timely performance evaluations
  • Manages discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Partner with leadership to execute the firm’s human resource and talent strategy
  • Work with integrity, confidentiality, and creativity as well as the intellectual, organizational, and personal qualities necessary to earn respect and cooperation across the firm
  • Provide support and guidance to HR generalists, management, and other staff when complex, specialized, and sensitive questions and issues arise; may be required to administer and execute routine tasks in delicate circumstances such as providing reasonable accommodations, investigating allegations of wrongdoing, and terminations
  • Assist with the talent acquisition process, which may include recruitment, interviewing, and hiring of qualified job applicants
  • Manage benefits administration, including the enrollment process, annual open enrollment, change and termination reporting, monitoring and auditing of benefits invoices, communication of information to employees, and fielding employee questions regarding benefits
  • Analyze trends in compensation and benefits; researches and proposes competitive base and incentive pay programs to ensure the organization attracts and retains top talent
  • Assist the HR Director with employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations
  • Stay current with compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance with EEO-1 reporting and other legal requirements
  • Maintain knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources and employment law
  • Promote and develop a positive workplace culture in order to drive employee engagement and boost firm morale
  • Track employment eligibility, and ensures that I-9 records and employee status' are compliant
  • Partner with leadership to research and develop solutions and efficiencies
  • Manage the onboarding process for new hires, ensuring that all onboarding documents are collected and are in compliance.
  • Manage and maintain document retention policies

  • Maintains the Employee Handbook
  • Must be a team player, with a passion for our firm, its people, and our mission
  • Collaborate with Finance/Payroll to ensure practices are compliant with city, state, and federal law
  • Assist with the processing of any Worker's Compensation claims
  • Makes recommendations to improve the HR and payroll processes
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required
  • A minimum of 3 years of Human Resource Management experience preferred
  • PHR or SPHR or equivalent is preferred
  • Prior experience working within the Professional Services industry is highly desired

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be able to confidently present to large audiences, in person and while remote
  • Must be a self-starter who is able to work with limited to no supervision
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to prioritize many tasks and delegate them when appropriate
  • Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations, across multiple states
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and other required software
  • Knowledge of CA employment laws and ability to learn employment law across multiple states
  • Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn Paycom
  • Strong critical thinking skills and emotional intelligence
